A generative art project by
Starts on Wednesday, December 18, 18:00 CET on Art Blocks Studio
Cosmicodes is a collaboration between Insigħt, a trio of generative quantum artists, and Leonardo Petrucci, an artist captivated by the mysteries of outer space.
The project draws inspiration from iron meteorites, specifically the striking geometries found in their slices — known as Widmanstätten patterns. These textures are formed in outer space through catastrophic cosmic explosions and are shaped over millions of years under slow cooling conditions.
There is a profound connection between humanity and the cosmos, and meteorites serve as tangible messengers, revealing the universe's history and mysteries in the most direct way.
One of the most distinguishing features of iron meteorites is the presence of the Widmanstätten pattern - the distinctive series of bands in geometric patterns.
These crystalline patterns become visible when the iron meteorites are cut, polished, and acid-etched. Cutting an octahedrite meteorite along different planes affects the shape and direction of Widmanstätten figures.
He trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, where he graduated in 2009 with a thesis on the relationship between art and alchemy, a field that still characterizes his research. Since 2012 he has been working in his studio at the Pastificio Cerere in the San Lorenzo neighborhood of Rome.
His artistic research focuses on very specific themes, which have always fascinated human beings, given the mystical and symbolic properties that subjects such as Sacred Geometry, Alchemy, Kabbalah and Astrology possess.
The fundamental aspect in his works is the ability to intertwine between these fields, more contemporary and scientific themes, such as Biology, Quantum Physics and Astronomy, thus attributing an aspect of greater truthfulness to the overall vision.
He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions. In 2017 he won the International Contemporary Generation Award, while in 2021 he obtained the Michetti Award with the work Sol 2081.
Tessitura Cosmica is a tapestry that reproduces the complex geometry found in iron meteorites. This sort of cosmic imprint represents a fundamental trace of the solar system's evolution, and therefore of all life known to date, inscribing itself in the DNA of humanity.
The artist’s intervention — who has spent years exploring the interconnections between mystical and scientific disciplines - consists of translating the structure of this archetypal network and replicating it using various different yarns, both natural and artificial.
COSMICODES represents the evolution and dematerialization of Tessitura Cosmica on the blockchain.
Insigℏt is a trio of visual artists exploring quantum theory as a new artistic language, born in 2021 when the quantum trajectories of S and A, two theoretical physicists in the field of quantum optics collided with that of D, a visionary creative coder. Insigℏt has forged a unique artistic approach based on accurate quantum calculations. Their creations are at the intersection between art, quantum physics, and cutting-edge digital technologies.
Their work has been presented at the MEET Digital Culture Center in Milan and at the Deutsches Museum in Munich, where they created quantum artworks by interacting with a quantum computer during a live performance. In March 2022, they released Quantum Collapses on Art Blocks, and in December 2023 Aleph-0, in collaboration with HACKATAO.
The generative algorithm bringing to life COSMICODES has been developed in collaboration with Giuseppe La Malfa.
COSMICODES is a visual metaphor. Just as generative art uses algorithms to produce unique artworks, the universe itself is an ongoing generative system. The laws of physics intertwine with quantum fluctuations, maintaining a delicate balance of randomness and structure that gives rise to the complexity we observe all around us.
Widmanstätten patterns in iron meteorites are shaped over millions of years under slow cooling conditions.
Opening COSMICODES editions you will observe the formation of patterns within seconds.
Each edition is a generative project itself. By pressing E you can explore an unlimited number of ephemeral generations, all sharing the same features as the original image. Pressing G generates a unique trio of outputs which can be saved as an high-resolution image.
Colors of COSMICODES are inspired to those of shooting stars. They burn up as entering the Earth’s atmosphere, glowing in a rainbow of colors. Different chemicals in the meteors produce different colors.
Each edition has a name, it encodes a word. You can try to uncover it.
What thoughts does it evoke in you?
